1-7-14: GRAMMY APPEARANCE WITH LANG LANG ANNOUNCED

Metallica has announced that they will perform live at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards with renowned classical pianist Lang Lang.

This is the first time Metallica has performed on the awards show since 1992, when they played "Enter Sandman" from their self-titled, multi-platinum offering commonly referred to by fans as "The Black Album."

Metallica's first appearance at the Grammy's was in 1989. For a band shunned by radio in the pre-internet era, and looked down on by the mainstream music scene as a whole, the appearance was indeed a milestone for the band. Performing their anti-war epic, "One," from "...And Justice For All," Metallica pushed back against the grain, refusing to censor themselves for the televised event.

From China, Lang Lang has played some amazing gigs, including the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, a White House State dinner, the Nobel Prize concert in Stockholm, and several World Cup ceremonies.

This will not be the first time Metallica has performed live with a classical artist. In 1999, the band performed a large selection of their heavy metal tracks backed up by the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Michael Kamen. The performance was recorded and released the same year as an album and a dvd, entitled, "S&M."

Metallica is nominated for Best Recording Package for the soundtrack from their film, "Through the Never."

There is no word on which song the band will perform with Lang Lang, but you can find out on Sunday, January 26th, when the Grammy's will air live on CBS
