3-17-14: METALLICA DEBUTS NEW SONG IN BOGOTA

Last night, Metallica debuted a tentative, new song to a sold out crowd at the Pargue Simon Bolivar venue in Bogota, Columbia.

Entitled, Lords of Summer, the eight-minute plus effort is the first taste of anything new from the band since the release of 2008's, Death Magnetic album.

"Tentative new song" is an apt moniker for the new offering, since the band has debuted "new songs" live before, only to not have them show up in their entirety on a subsequent release.

On tour in 2006, Metallica debuted a song referred to by fans as Vulturus, and another known as Death is Not the End, with a disclaimer; lead singer James Hetfield told the crowd that the songs might be on a new album, "or might not be." Parts of Death is Not the End were eventually cannibalized and included in two separate tracks on the bands eventual release of Death Magnetic. Vulturus, on the other hand, is apparently lost to the ages.

Metallica is currently in the midst of their "Metallica By Request" tour through South America and Europe. The summer outing provides fans with the opportunity to pick the concert set list for each of the shows, provided they have a ticket.

Drummer, Lars Ulrich, told Rolling Stone that Lords of Summer is "...fairly representative of where our creative headspace is right now."

Metallica is reportedly working on their tenth studio album between concerts.
